What are we going to visit?

Segóbriga Archaeological Park. Surely you have heard of this archaeological site. The city of Segóbriga is one of the most important remains of the Roman world in Hispania. The city was the economic and commercial center of lapis specularis, this first crystal in history (used before glass) was known as the Crystal of Hispania, this allowed its economic boom and its monumentalization from the time of Augustus. It is considered one of the best examples of a Roman city in the interior of the peninsula. There are only 7 Roman cities in Spain that have the monumentality of Segóbriga. During your visit you can see the theater, the amphitheater, the Roman circus, the public baths, the forum... We will be able to enjoy an ancient Roman theater and step on the sand of an authentic amphitheatre, living it firsthand is quite an experience.

 

Lapis Specularis roman mines. Or "espejuelo" or "espejillo" which is how glass from Hispania is traditionally known around here. This crystallized plaster meant, for more than 200 years, a great social and economic revolution, as well as in architecture, since its use in structures meant the passage of light within both civil and religious constructions. We have to go into the depths of the earth to be able to see a mine just as the Romans left it, since it was buried and the passage of time has allowed us to see it as it was in the 2nd century AD. An authentic mine from Roman times, where the form and technique of exploitation of these centers, the lighting, the work process, etc. can be observed in a very visual way. These mines are located in La Alcarria, in an incomparable natural space that makes of this visit the perfect tandem between natural and historical excursion.

 

Roman Villa of Noheda. We don't know which of the places we visit will surprise you the most, but the Noheda mosaic is the largest figurative representation of the Roman Empire. Not surprisingly, Katherine Dunbabin, professor emeritus at Osford University and one of the great experts in mosaic art, declared that it was "the most impressive mosaic she had seen in the entire Roman Empire." This luxurious Roman Villa from the 4th century AD, known as the Spanish Pompeii, is home to this unique mosaic. It is located in what was the villa's triclinium, the old Roman dining room, and has an area of 231m2. The theme of the mosaics is also quite unique and includes scenes as surprising as the Dionysian Procession, the Rape of Helen of Troy or the myth of Pelops and Hippodamia. Undoubtedly, one of the great wonders of the Roman world.
