The best wines from Cuenca to give and enjoy this Christmas
They say that to taste the colors, and to give a good wine. Christmas arrives and with it dinners, friends, gifts... and everything becomes uncertain. Fear not, here we are at Cuenqueando to make your life easier, or at least to offer you a small wine guide so you don't disappoint this Christmas.
What type of wine to give at Christmas?
Here we are presented with the eternal crossroads. White wine or red wine? At this point we discard the idea of women's wines, please, taste is something that does not respond to gender. If you don't like wine, you will try to choose a wine that tastes little like “wine” and our recommendation of course is that you don't give wine to someone who doesn't like wine. Another thing is to carry your bottle under your arm, this is another option, in those houses where wine is not drunk and one is a drinker, a bottle of wine of one's own taste is welcome, but please be considerate and accompany it with a gift for the hosts.
We return to the topic we discussed: white or red? This depends on the pairing we are going to make and the tastes of course of the hosts. But why not be a little more risky and surprise with a cava or a sweet wine.
Here one of our great recommendations and a safe bet is Dulce Enero from Altolandon Ice Wine 2018. What makes Dulce Enero exceptional is its unique production method. This ice wine is made from grapes naturally frozen in the vineyard during the cold January nights. This process concentrates the sugars and flavors, resulting in a sweet and exquisite elixir. A very unique wine with intense flavors of stone fruits, honey and touches of yucca and citrus sparks.
If your decision is a sparkling wine, we opt for Puente de Rus, a Brut Nature from Cooperativa Nuestra Señora de Rus in San Clemente. And if you still don't know this beautiful Renaissance town, take advantage of these Christmas days to make a visit that is well worth it. A very wise decision for those houses where the wine is cared for and pampered, and is enjoyed and tasted, it is a sparkling wine. The hosts may have already chosen the wines thinking about their pairing and the menu they are going to offer, so a sparkling wine or cava is ideal for all types of starters.
Now we go with one of our favorite whites, which this year seems to be the fashionable wine of Cuenca. It has already won Second Prize in the XXIX edition of the Cuenca Provincial Council Wine Competition and has also won the Gran Bacchus de Oro 2023, the only Spanish awards with recognition from the International Wine Organization. Who are we talking about? Del Alegría Charcón 2023 from Bodegas Coronado, a family winery that is offering wines with a lot of personality.
And if you haven't opened a glass of wine yet while reading this post, don't continue reading, but if you have, we'll let you enjoy it with our last recommendation. A wine that is a sure hit, it is a great wine, it is round, it is perfect: the Bisiesto from Bodega Soledad in Fuente de Pedronaharro. This tempranillo is made in a vineyard that is more than 40 years old, so it has a lot of history, a lot of personality, it is very… Cuenqueando.
We hope we have helped you a little, but as this post began, depending on your taste, the wines. Drink in moderation and with enjoyment. And friend: be wine!!!
