Wine route in Cuenca: Wine tourism between vineyards and emblematic wineries

Today we are going wine shopping in Cuenca. And during these Christmas periods, many of us think about which wines will sit at the table. A great way to get to know the wines of our land is to tour its wineries.

Visiting a winery is understanding everything behind a wine to be able to value it, from the land in which it is located, the type of cultivation practiced, what the winery is like, what its philosophy is, who is behind the brand. and learn the stories of the people who make it possible. That is why it is very valuable for a winery to open its doors and provide that beautiful experience to its customers. Today we are going to talk about 3 wineries that make this possible:

 

• PAGO CALZADILLA

It is one of our favorite wineries because it is located in a privileged location, in the heart of La Alcarria, in the district of Huete, with a landscape that makes it unique. Calzadilla is the only payment we have in Cuenca. First of all, what is a wine of Pago? In Spain there is a classification of wines based on their origin, the protection they have and the regulations they comply with. It is a classification that establishes different types of wine, from table wine to the highest classification: the Denomination of Origin Vino de Pago.

Pago Wine is that which is produced in a very specific area, with specific geographical characteristics, which make the wine unique. Calzadilla is one of the few wineries in the world that has a D.O. own due to its unique climate and soil conditions that make its vineyards have unique characteristics.

Knowing the uniqueness of its wines you can get an idea of the uniqueness of its architecture, which has been a success, creating a perfect mimicry with the land of La Alcarria. All you have to do is get to know their wines and enjoy this experience. You can complete your day with a lot of plans in Huete.

• BODEGA LAS CALZADAS

We were talking about how important stories are, and here we have one of those stories of perseverance and good work.

The winery is located in a privileged area in the Ribera del Júcar DO, specifically in Pozoamargo, a town in Cuenca with barely 300 inhabitants, prey to depopulation and struggling to recover its glorious wine-growing past.

Behind this beautiful project is Daniel Sevilla, who at only 23 years old and with the support of his family creates this Winery recovering old vineyards and one of the oldest traditions, which is making wines in jars. A difficult challenge but full of enthusiasm.

Nowadays the winery also has a restaurant on weekends so you can enjoy a full day at the winery.

• BODEGA FINCA LA ESTACADA

Sometimes we don't know what we have nearby, because maybe you have sat down to eat at their restaurant, but you have never visited their facilities at the Finca La Estacada wine tourism complex in Tarancón. And we highly recommend it to you. The effort and good work of the Cantarero family can be seen from their wines, through their winery and of course, through their kitchen.

They offer different activities throughout the year to enjoy the world of wine. Visit to the facilities and tasting of 3 wines. And you can do it every day at 11:30 a.m. They also have very fun activities such as Oenologist for a day or the Harvest Workshop, so a good opportunity these days to give or treat yourself to experiences in our land.
